Why I disabled WordPress RSS feeds and Should You Do it too?

Hey TRUNG,

This was a busy week at WPBeginner, and I have lots to share with you.

I made a pretty controversial decision couple of weeks ago to disable several RSS feeds in WordPress.

And I believe this will become a trend as more people discover this problem.

I was browsing through my Google Search Console and realized that Google was crawling 80,000+ pages on my site but not indexing them!!!

This was delaying my new posts from showing up.

It turned out that a lot of those pages that search engines were crawling were useless RSS feeds.

WordPress creates RSS feeds for each post, page, category, tag, author, and so on.

This has been the case for years, but it seems Google is catching on.

So I had my team at All in One SEO build a feature called Crawl Cleanup to help me combat this.

After disabling several useless RSS feeds, I have reduced the wasted crawl budget by 50%, and my new posts are getting indexed faster.

Here's a quick tutorial on how you can disable RSS feeds in WordPress using the beginner-friendly plugin or code snippet method.

If you use the AIOSEO plugin, you can go with the default settings, and that will help clean up your Google crawl quota as well.
